Make your Miles Count!
Mileage is one of the most common but missed deductions in small businesses. Did you know you can deduct 67 cents for every single mile driven for business purposes for 2024?
The IRS REQUIRES that you keep a mileage log with:
Date and time
Where you went
Beginning and ending mileage
Purpose of trip (must be for business)
This deduction can be huge if you do a lot of driving! Trips to the post office, bank, picking up supplies, delivering orders, going to events, conferences, and the list goes on!
Unfortunately commuting to and from home to your office, warehouse, or Brick & Mortar store does not count.
Hint: If you need to make a trip to the post office or bank, go straight there from your home before going to your place of work. Your mileage from home then becomes deductible!
There are plenty of mileage tracking apps available to help you with tracking mileage! QuickBooks has one if you have a subscription! Other apps recommended by my clients are Everlance, MileIQ, and Stride.
